Research that Benefits Children and Families—Uplifting Stories
I would like to share this article about The Importance of Preschool and Child Care for Working Mothers. This article was uplifting to me because the President of the United States understands the importance of quality preschool programs for mothers who have to work. This topic for me and many of my colleagues was an issue that we struggle with while looking for quality affordable childcare. I found myself 2 years ago looking for childcare for my son who is now four years old. There were many childcare programs that I would have love for him to attend but the average cost was at least $135.00 per week. This was something that I could not afford and often thought about quitting my job because I didn’t have anyone to keep my son while I worked. With my continuous prayers I finally found a program that I love and could afford.
Thank you for sharing this article. Parents are not able to fully participate in their professional work if they do not know their child is in a safe environment while away for them. This is such an important topic!

Your story is a familiar one to me. Many of the parents I work with struggle with the same issues surrounding quality child care. Isn't it ironic that you needed to find quality child care so you could support your son by providing a quality early childhood program for other families?
ReplyDeleteYour article is a good one for me to hold on to. I have the occasion to make presentations to a good number of policy makers. I appreciate the validity of the source, the data, and the narrative of the article. It is a good example of quantitative research, one that looks at numbers. Thanks for your post. I hope you enjoy a long weekend with your family!
Affordable quality childcare is something that I think is going to be a forever issue within the early childhood field. The average price for childcare in my community is around $250 a week for children, which a lot of parents are not able to pay. Im glad to hear that you found a program you love and could afford. It is important to find a program that you love as much as your child does, because you want to trust your child's teachers to know that they are safe while in their care. That article is a great resource. Great post.
