When I Think of Child Development

If I had my child to raise all over again,

I'd finger paint more and point the finger less.
I'd do less correcting and more connecting.
I'd take my eyes off my watch and watch with my eyes.
I would care to know less and know to care more.
I'd take more hikes and fly more kites.
I'd stop playing serious and seriously play.
I'd run through more fields and gaze at more stars.
I'd do more hugging and less tugging.
I would be firm less often and affirm much more.
I'd build self-esteem first and the house later.
I'd teach less about the love of power
and more about the power of love.

  1. I am totally blown away by Loomans' poem. I do not have children of my own yet but when I do I will use this to be a better parent. I could also use this in my center to show parent's how they can be better now so they do not have this feeling. Thank you for sharing, not only this post but all your personal stories, thoughts, and insights. I have gained so much from you and am truly grateful for the opportunity to have participated in this class with you.

    1. Thanks so much. I haven’t been my best this class because of health issues but I tried my very best to stay active in the class without dropping. I wish you well and I'm looking forward to chatting with you soon.

  2. Tawanda,
I was glad to see at the beginning of this class that we were going to be able to share again. I really like your background of your blog page. It makes me feel like a party is going on every time I log onto your blog. You have made some great points and shared some good information during this class and I wish you the best in the future. Hopefully, we will be in the same class next semester. Have a wonderful holiday season with your family.
